BENE LA BORSA DA DONNA

The tendency for the field, prior to the final balance of the economic situation, in 2001 sees confirmed the previsions made in the first part of the years: the overall picture still discreetly positive but weakening progressively after the excellent results of the previous year; therefore,a balance where the unknown and uncertainty alternate with the positive bursts, giving rise to a light and shade scenario that characterised the bginning of 2002. There were also diversified tendencies between productive areas within the country; in the Tuscany region, the heart of quality leather goods, the economic situation took on a decidedly negative connotation, giving rise - in the second part of 2001 - to an inversion in trend, thus making orders and tunover suffer; the not-brilliant moment for imoportant brand names generated much difficulty in the armature of third-party enterprises that gravitated around these in direct onj direct way. Less problematic the scenario in other regions such as Lombardy, Venice, Emilia and Marche where the inclination was for overall stability of principal economic situation indicators. In 2001, a productive growth was estimated of between 4% and 6% that would brin the value of total production of leather goods to between 2,463 million and 2,510 million Euro. Internal consumption demonstrated a disceet stability: the expenditure of families for leather goods stayed basically the same compared to 2000 (+0.2%), reaching 1,410.41 million Euros, and in the same way the volume of purchases, grew by 0.1%. Ladies handbangs, with 814.45 million Euros, represent almost 58% of overall expenditure of families for purchase of leather goods.
