BRASILE - MESSICO

At the beginning of July 2002, during Mexican President Vincente Fox´s Brazilian visit, the two countries signed a free trade agreement which could justifiably be defined as historic. The agreement, among other things, could be the prelude to another agreement of the same type between Mexico City and Mercosur. The economic agreement of co-operation between Brazil and Mexico will abolish duties on 792 products; according to a statement by the Brazilian Foreign Minister, Celso Lafer, this new pact should bring commercial exchanges between the two contries to about 2.6 billion dollars per year.
