At the beginning of the sixties reclaimed leather, the fruit of transforming scraps from the tannery, was used exclusively in the footwear industry to produce insoles and counters.
In the leather goods sector it was used very little and was limited to being a simple reinforcement material.
Prodotti Alfa, specialised since 1959 in the production of reclaimed leather, with its “Qualità Soft” line, in recent years has created a new role for this material that is now used in more sectors: clothing accessories (buttons and buckles), furnishing (office chairs, desk covering), small leather goods (cases, keyrings, gadgets, etc).
In fact, compared to traditional products, used for internal parts such as insoles that are then covered or reinforcement that is not visible in leather goods, the new materials are used for the external part of belts, diaries, photo albums, patches for bags, etc.
“Qualità Soft”, with its characteristics is very workable, flexible, elastic and holds colour well, and represents a turning point, and, in some cases, an interesting and cheaper alternative to leather itself.
A new role has been created, similar to that of leather, imposing continuous updates in terms of design and colour.
Prodotti Alfa is definitely going for light tones in the coming season, relaxing and nubuck or greased effect, with a strong similarity to the natural grain of skin.
In the Qualità Soft line, furthermore, technically innovative solutions are not lacking. “Soft Doubleface” is a valid example and can be used on both sides, in the same or even different colours: it comes in sheets with thickness ranging from 2,8, 3,2 and 3,6 mm and has a similar body as that of leather. This material, designed especially for belts, as well as significantly reducing working times, ensures a high quality final result.
Among the most recent novelties proposed by the company is
important to underline the double color materials and the ones with
special finishings like the creased or rubbing and the french-polished effect, in contrasts of warm and natural colors. And, for
the furnishing sector, they produce some materials that reproduce
accurately the pores and small “imperfections” of real leather.
